Dextran sulfate is a polyanionic derivative of dextran, produced by esterification of dextran with chlorosulphonic acid. Dextran sulfate inhibits the binding of RNA to ribosomes. It is also a potent ribonuclease inhibitor 20 and has been used in the isolation of ribosomes.
